What is freedom? How do you describe freedom?

Write an essay, a poetry or make a video clip and explain what is freedom to you and how could the Iranians have freedom? What does it take?

The winner will receive a paid internship with CIS in Washington, DC.

How to confront the clerical regime without launching a military strike

Thanks to Potkin Azarmehr and Maryam Reissi from the CIS UK team who led CIS USA members for a number of policy meetings from October 27-31, 2008. CIS attended a panel in House of Commons about “how to confront the clerical regime without launching a military strike.”

The meeting was hosted by Daniel Kawczynski, member of House of Commons who understands living under a totalitarian regime because of his Polish roots.

Amir Abbas Fakhravar, the Secretary General of CIS spoke at this panel and said, “the world specifically the governments of European countries who have paved the way for democracy should stop doing business with Islamic Republic.

The panel was followed by a question and answer session. There were a number of questions from the audience who wanted to know what steps could be taken toward a secular democratic Iran.

During this week there were a number of key meetings to discuss the violations of human rights in Iran.

Confederation of Iranian Students(CIS) was officially launched on November 2002 with a number of students and political activists inside and outside of Iran with the leadership of Amir Abbas Fakhravar, jailed dissident, writer, and award winning journalist.

CIS has more than 4000 members inside and outside of Iran. CIS is one of the largest independent student organization that is dedicated to promote freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran.

CIS strives to empower the will and the confidence of young Iranians, build team work, and educate students on freedom of expression, freedom of press, and freedom of religion.

Confederation of Iranian Students is active in a number of universities and college campuses of Iran. Since there is no freedom of press and most of the websites are filtered, many of the CIS members in Iran post the news and exchange ideas on their weblogs.

CIS also has a large presence in many countries of Europe and North America.

CIS members work closely with Amnesty International to bring the latest news about the situation of political prisoners and executions in Iran.

CIS held its first leadership summit in August of 2008 in Frankfurt, Germany. The team discussed the current activities of the group and set the agenda for the upcoming events.

CIS members hold briefings, press conferences, and speak on many panels to discuss the political, social and violations of human rights in Iran.

We hope and pray for the release of all political prisoners, especially our friend and colleague, Arzhang Davoodi.
